THE CLIENT

Trapped Animal Records is an independent label based in Cambridge, UK, known for releasing limited-edition vinyl from rising and underground artists. They approached me to create a modular label design system for their 12" records and singles— one that felt timeless, distinctive, and flexible enough to suit a diverse and evolving roster.

THE PROCESS

I started by analysing my own record collection, drawing inspiration from classic imprints like Stax, Atlantic, and Parlophone. The goal was to strike a balance between vintage familiarity and contemporary clarity — creating a framework that honours TA’s love for physical music objects while remaining adaptable for future releases.

The resulting system offers clear hierarchy, bold typographic structure, and space for variation — allowing each record to stand out while maintaining a cohesive visual identity. Trapped Animal were delighted with the result and have since adopted the system across their vinyl catalogue.
